If you’re new to the world of motorbikes, it’s important to understand the structure of motorcycle licensing in the UK. In this quick guide, we’ll be going over everything from how to get your A2 to the difference between progressive access and a DAS test. We’ll also be talking about the path to getting that unrestricted A licence that will allow you to drive any bike on UK roads.
In the UK, there are four types of motorcycle licence:
People under the age of 24 who are looking to get their A licence are required to follow the progressive access route. In essence this means that before they can be tested for their A licence, they must first have held an A2 licence for a minimum of 2 years.
If you’re 24 or over, then you can also go for a direct access licence. This will allow you to skip straight to your A licence without needing to have held an A2.
In order to pass a DAS test, we recommend booking one of our full licence courses. You’ll have to pass your theory test first but after that a full licence course should give you the preparation you need. We’re fully DSA approved and have lots of experienced staff as well as all the equipment you’ll need from helmets and gloves to a fleet of well maintained bikes.
Once you’ve completed your training, you can then book your full licence assessment. After passing your assessment, you’ll then finally be qualified to ride any motorbike.
Of course, if all that’s a bit much for you or else you’re under the age of 24, please be aware that we also offer CBT as well as other types of training, available to view on our website.
