How to Make Sure You’re Seen Whilst Driving Your Motorbike

Riding a motorbike is a fun, thrilling and great way to get around. However, regardless of whether you’ve been driving for 20 years, or have just passed your CBT course, it can be nerve-wracking dealing with other motorists on the road. You can’t always predict what the driver in front of you will do, but there are a few things you can do to keep yourself safe as possible whilst on your motorbike.

Increasing Your Visibility on the Road

1) Wear High Vis Gear

Wearing a high-vis vest or helmet might not be the most aesthetic of looks, but it is one of the best ways to ensure other drivers can see you. Especially on dark, gloomy and rainy days. Opt for colours like red, orange, yellow and green to help you stand out from your surroundings.

2) Put Reflective Rim Tapes on Your Bike

Reflective strips are a quick, cost effective solution to increasing your visibility on your bike. Reflective strips are cheap, easy to install and will make a massive difference to how well other drivers see you. Focus on putting the tape on areas of your bike that stick out and catch the most light.

3) Weave Before Stopping

A tactic you might have learnt in your motorcycle training, weaving before stopping can make sure you are noticed by drivers around you. The movement from your headlights, or from you in general, will attract the attention of other motorists, and will alert them to your presence.

4) Use Hand Signals

Don’t be afraid to put your motorcycle training skills to good use, using hand signals can sometimes be more effective than indicator lights. Using hand signals can make sure other motorists are paying attention to your actions, especially if you think they may be texting or distracted whilst driving.
