What is a CBT Renewal Course | Alpha Motorcycle Training

The CBT renewal course isn’t too different from a regular CBT course, but it is often referred to as a renewal as you need it to extend your original CBT for another 2 years. It is against the law to ride a motorcycle or scooter if your CBT is expired.

In order to complete the CBT renewal course you need to have already undertaken your original CBT course, and you need to have the certificate to prove this. You also still need to provide your full or provisional UK driving license, or EU driving license, in order to undertake the CBT renewal.

Once you have completed the CBT renewal you will be issued with a new CBT certificate which will be valid for another 2 years.

What is Involved in the CBT Renewal Course?

The CBT renewal course is a version of the CBT course, and it is needed to prove that your riding is still of a high standard, to ensure that you are still following the rules of the Highway Code, and most importantly to check that you are still riding safely for the benefit of yourself and others on the road.

The course typically lasts 3-4 hours and covers many of the aspects your original CBT course covers including on-site and on-road riding. If your current CBT is still in date, and your bike is insured and road legal it is possible to complete the CBT renewal on your own bike.

Our CBT Renewal Course

Our CBT renewal course is technically a standard CBT course but it is only open to experienced riders who have their own bike. You are not eligible for this course if your CBT has already expired, or if your bike is not insured or is not roadworthy.

If you have already completed a renewal CBT why not look into completing your A1 license? This will mean you don’t have to keep renewing your CBT every 2 years.
